While we’re on the topic of Streeters (see below), The Streeter Family Association has made some exciting updates to their bi-yearly newsletter. It is now printed on glossy paper and features a family crest (no idea what it means) in color. I get this newsletter a couple times a year and it mostly centers around Stephen and Ursula (Adams) Streeter. Stephen was the first Streeter to come to America (1638) and breed (Stephen + Ursula + very long time = ME!). Ursula was the daughter of Henry Adams, the man who would breed the line that eventually produced John and John Quincy. It is the Streeter family’s ace in the hole in terms of anestral connections and the newsletter likes to make liberal mention of that.
I write this here not only to let everyone know that there is a Streeter Newsletter which I find hysterical, but to whine about their subscription practices. You see, I never signed up for this. My dad has been getting it for years, but one day it just started showing up at my apartment. “Cool,” I thought, “They’ve heard of me and are sending a free copy!” How wrong I was. Soon enough, the bills for membership dues started showing up. They come every few months and, as the years tick by, are approaching triple digits. Not that I don’t like reading about my family’s history, but I can borrow my dad’s issues of the newsletter to do that. Basically, my own family is trying to extort money from me.
Perhaps I will travel up to Streeter Family Association meeting this summer and air my complaint in person. Luckily, it’s 3 days long so I’ll have plenty of time to set the record straight. Though, what other Streeter-related business people will be talking about for 3 days is beyond me.
